Committed to the Advancement of Latinos in the Legal Profession and the Empowerment of the Latino Community Through Service and Advocacy

STUDENT OUTREACH

MABA’s Student Outreach Program

The Mexican American Bar Association (“MABA”) is a professional organization whose mission is to empower the Latino community. Our membership is comprised of law students, attorneys, mediators, judges, and others in the legal community in Los Angeles County. MABA organizes several events to carry out its mission including Community Legal Fairs and visits to Los Angeles County schools and youth organizations.

The goal of MABA’s Student Outreach Program is to expose young people to Latino and diverse law students, attorneys, and judges who can share personal stories that resonate with students from diverse backgrounds. We hope that by sharing our stories, we can inspire students of all ages to pursue higher education and consider a career in law. Since 2015, MABA’s Student Outreach Program has reached over 1,000 students at over a dozen schools and youth organizations throughout Los Angeles.

If you would like MABA members to present to your classroom or program to share their professional and academic trajectories, please email Committee Chairs: Michael Feliz at michaelfelix@entertainmentvisa.com and Magdalena Casas at president@mabaattorneys.com with the subject “Student Outreach Program.”

Please include the possible date(s) for the presentation, the number of speakers requested, and the location of the presentation. While we will make every effort to accommodate requests, we cannot guarantee speakers for presentations requested on short notice.

MABA High School Scholarship

The Mexican American Bar Association (“MABA”) is a professional organization whose mission is to empower the Latino community. Our membership is comprised of law students, attorneys, mediators, judges, and others in the legal community in Los Angeles County. MABA organizes several events to carry out its mission including Community Legal Fairs and visits to Los Angeles County high schools.

Because of the generosity of MABA’s 2014 President, MABA launched a High School Scholarship Program in 2015 to aid college-bound students to pay for college-related expenses. Each year, MABA will award at least one $1,000 scholarship award each spring to a talented scholar. More scholarships may be awarded of varying amounts subject to the availability of funds.

Every spring, the application will open to high school seniors enrolled in the schools and programs that participate in MABA’s Student Outreach Program in the prior year. In awarding the Scholarship, MABA will consider each applicant’s financial need, community service, leadership experience, and any hardship experienced in pursuing an education. Because MABA is firmly committed to the empowerment of the Latino community, all students, regardless of immigration status, are eligible to apply.

To ensure that high school seniors at your school or program are eligible to apply for the MABA High School Scholarship, please contact MABA to request a presentation as part of MABA’s Student Outreach Program.

The High School Scholarship application for 2023 Is now available.
